My Answer to the DEMs & Diaz's Smear Campaign

Why is someone from Highlands County running for Sheriff in Palm Beach County?

  • Lauro Diaz resigned from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office in 2010, shortly after he allowed an unauthorized high-speed pursuit that led to a multi-car collision resulting in a civilian death.
  • Lauro Diaz has a long, sad history of bouncing around from one law enforcement agency to another, always resigning just as issues were developing that could lead to his termination.
  • Lauro Diaz does not live in Palm Beach County.
  • Lauro Diaz moved to Highlands County in 2010 – 14 years ago.
  • Lauro Diaz has owned a home in Highlands County with his wife Ines since 2010. They maintain a homestead exemption on their home in Highlands County. View Public Records – Lauro Diaz “NOW REDACTED” Homestead Exemption
  • In 2012, Lauro Diaz began working for the Highlands County Sheriff’s Office where he worked, on and off, until he resigned AGAIN in 2020 to run for Palm Beach County Sheriff. He lost.
  • In 2021, Lauro Diaz joined the Bartow Police Department and became Deputy Chief.
  • Lauro Diaz resigned AGAIN in 2023, after a city commissioned report blamed him in part for what it described as a “Crisis in Leadership.”
  • Lauro Diaz was accused of attempting to undermine the authority of then Police Chief Bryan Dorman (a 25-year veteran of the Bartow Police Department).
  • Included in the report was a statement by the State Attorney for the 10th Judicial Circuit that he had “NO faith in any major cases investigated by the Bartow Police Department” under Lauro Diaz’s tenure.

Lauro Diaz has repeatedly resigned from positions of leadership. He makes unbelievable excuses for why he had to resign. It’s a warning sign that shouldn’t be ignored. Now, Lauro Diaz is running for Palm Beach County Sheriff again …

Palm Beach County residents deserve a better Sheriff who lives in Palm Beach County, not a carpetbagger from Highlands County.

Don’t waste your vote on a politically-driven sheriff that is a proven warning sign.

Vote for Michael Gauger for Sheriff to keep Palm Beach County safe.
